A Modern Black-Tie Wedding at The Casey — Devon & John
Some weddings feel like a job. This one felt like a reunion.

Devon and John got married on August 16, 2024, at The Casey here in Charlotte, and if I’m being honest, this is one of those days I still think about. From the first conversation, it felt like chatting with an old friend. Their engagement session was also such a fun time to connect with a classy studio session followed by locations like the light rail in Noda and Camp North End for sunset. By the time their wedding day rolled around, it genuinely felt less like “photographer meets couple” and more like showing up for friends. Everything felt easy, with, of course, some given guidance. But nothing forced or stiff, just two people (and a wedding party of twelve) having the best day of their lives.
The look: modern, minimal, black and white
If you’re picturing color-drenched florals and layers of detail, this isn’t that, and that was very much the point. Devon and John went full modern minimalist. It felt minimal but elevated.
Devon’s dress was also a statement, classy and fitting for her wedding day. Poffie Girls truly has some lovely dresses! A structured tube-top silhouette up top, full and a little puffy at the bottom, with a long veil that gave the whole look drama without adding a single unnecessary detail. It photographed beautifully. The kind of dress that doesn’t need embellishment to feel like a moment.
The wedding party leaned into the same energy. Six groomsmen in black tuxes and black bow ties, six bridesmaids in sleek black silk dresses. An all-black attire wedding for high contrast, high elegance, zero clutter.
Even the reception tablescapes stuck to the theme: soft, wild baby’s breath as the main floral moment for the head table, letting the black-and-white palette do the talking instead of competing with big blooms.
The vibe: Elegant while still getting down
Here’s what made this day work. Devon and John wanted their wedding to look editorial and feel like a party. They wanted to make sure their guests enjoyed themselves while looking good. Capturing in-between moments while also giving guidance and making sure that they enjoy the day with their guests will always be a priority as a wedding photographer.
